The Deer Park High School Key Club attended the Pacific Northwest Key Club District Convention in Seattle on March 30-April 1. The convention is an opportunity to meet other Key Clubbers, get training to run clubs through informative workshops, share ideas for service projects and elect the district executive board. On the last evening there is an awards session where Key Clubs from the district (Alaska, British Columbia, Yukon Territory, Northern Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and Northern California) are recognized. This year the Deer Park High School Key Club received three awards. The Attendance Award, The Single Service Award, and The Malcolm Lewis Outstanding Club Member Award which went to Selena Lewis. To stand out among so many Key Clubs from such a large district was exciting for everyone there.

Algebra/Geometry & Biology EOC

The Algebra/Geometry (EOC) End-of-Year Exam is scheduled for Wednesday, May 30 from 8:30 to 10:57 a.m. The Biology (EOC) End-of-Year Exam is scheduled for Tuesday, June 5 from 8:30 to 10:57 a.m. Contact Dr. Dunn with questions at 468-3529.

Students taking one or both exams will begin testing at 8:30 a.m. Students not taking EOC are welcome to arrive to school for 1st period for an 11:02 a.m. start time provided they have their own transportation. Buses will transport students to DPHS only during regular bus pick up time. (Click here to download bell schedule).

Prom 2012 – “Until the End of Time”

PROM 2012 – “Until the End of Time is scheduled for Saturday, May 12th , from 8-11PM at The Service Station, 9315 N. Nevada in Spokane. Music and Photo Booth will be provided by Entertainment Warehouse, and photography will be provided
by Dorian. Prom guest pass forms (click here to download form) will be available in the main office beginning Monday, April 9. The deadline to turn guest pass forms in is Wednesday, May 9, no exceptions. Guests must be of high school age, and no one over the age of 20 will be admitted to a DPHS dance. All guest passes are subject to principal approval. Guests must show proper photo identification at the door. All prom attendees must adhere to the Behavior Expectation Guidelines to be distributed with the tickets.

Seniors, with spring right around the corner, senior projects, fun activities, and key deadlines are coming on “fast and furious!” Seniors need to stay on top of a few important dates – don’t miss an important event or deadline!

* Wednesday, April 25 (7:00 p.m.) is the Senior Culminating Project Evening.

* Prom 2012 “Until the End of Time” is Saturday, May 12 from 9pm-11pm at “The Service Station” located 9315 N. Nevada, Spokane, WA.

* In addition, graduation “Walking Partner” & “Graduation Agreement” forms were handed out to seniors during a senior class meeting, Monday, March 19. The deadline date to return these forms to Sherry Rollins in the Counseling Center is May 4. If your son/daughter has not turned in one or both of these forms, you can download them by clicking here.

* Seniors planning on attending Senior Trip to Silverwood and/or Laserquest, must complete a permission slip and return to the Main Office no later than Tuesday, May 1 at 3:30 p.m. You can download permission slips and additional information by clicking here.

* Class of 2012 Graduation is Saturday, June 9, 6:00 p.m. Seniors are to arrive at 4:45 p.m. and report to the Auxiliary Gym. For interested seniors and parents, Leo’s Photography will be available to take photographs beginning at 5:45 p.m. Doors open for ticketed guests at 4:30 p.m. and non-ticketed guests at 5:30 p.m. Graduation tickets (10 each) will be released to seniors on Friday, May 25.

Senior All-Nighter Parent Meeting – 10:00 a.m. Theater

Class of 2012 Senior All-Nighter Parent Committee is meeting with seniors at 10:00 a.m. today, March 12 in the theater to handout fundraising information and provide seniors with information regarding the upcoming Senior All-Nighter event! If you were unable to attend, please stop by and pick up information in Mrs. Frost’s room J116.

Senior Presentation – Judges Needed!

This year, Wednesday, April 25 is the date of senior culminating project presentations and we are asking for your help to judge again. Sign-in is from 6:15 TO 6:45 PM, instructions begin at 6:45 and judging at approximately 7 PM. Each senior takes approximately 20 minutes so most judges are finished a little after 9 PM. We know you are busy people and we appreciate those who have served on a panel in the past and hope they will do so again this year. We also encourage anyone who hasn’t judged to try it. The seniors are always happy to see a familiar face or a new face when they present.

HSPE Exam Schedule (Writing & Reading)

DPHS will be administering the High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE) March 13-15. HSPE Writing will be March 13 & 14 and HSPE Reading will be March 15. (Please go the dphs.org webpage, “bell schedules” for a copy of the HSPE Bell Schedule.

Students taking the HSPE Exam will begin at 8:30 a.m. and it will go till 10:57. A list of students and locations they will take HSPE exam will be posted on the Library window shortly.

Students NOT Taking HSPE will begin school at 11:02 a.m. (class time) each test day provided they have transportation. Students not taking HSPE who ride the bus and arrive at school for the 8:30 a.m. start time will report to the commons area to check in for attendance. Supervision will be provided for students not taking HSPE who arrive on their regular bus for 8:30 a.m. start time.

Buses will run on REGULAR SCHEDULED BUS ROUTES AND TIMES ONLY!

The HSPE measures the proficiency of students in high school and serves as the state’s exit exam in reading and writing. Its name conveys the goal of the test: to measure a student’s proficiency of basic skills. In spring 2011, the state moved to end-of-course math exams and will no longer use a comprehensive math test. In spring 2012, students will take an end-of-course exam in biology.

Students in the classes of 2011 and 2012 must pass the reading and writing exams or a state-approved alternative in order to be eligible to graduate. Students in the classes of 2013 and 2014 must pass exams in reading, writing and one end-of-course math exam. Science is no longer required through the class of 2014. Beginning with the class of 2015, students must pass reading, writing, two end-of-course math exams and a biology end-of-course exam.

The HSPE reading exam takes one day, while the writing exam is two days. The HSPE testing dates for spring 2012 are: March 13-14 (Writing) and March 15 (Reading). The math and biology end-of-course exams are given in the last three weeks of the school year.

Spring Sports Parent Meeting

The spring sports parent meeting will take place on Thursday, March 1st in the common area of Deer Park High School. The meeting will begin at 6pm. All parents will meet together for the first 15 minutes then break out into sport specific meetings headed by your son or daughter’s coach. Please make sure to attend so you are up to date on all athletic information and expectations. Thanks so much and GO STAGS!

Student LED Conferences Scheduled!

The 2012 Student Led Conferences will be held on Wednesday, March 28 from 1-8 pm and on Thursday, March 29 from 1- 3:30 pm. On March 28, March 29 and March 30 students will attend morning classes and will be dismissed to board buses at 12:20 pm. Sack lunches will be provided. Please go to our “bell schedule” drop down menu to get a copy of our Student LED Conference Bell Schedule.

All DPHS students are required to hold a Student Led Conference so parent/guardian participation is essential. Grade 9-11 students will describe their challenges and accomplishments as well as future plans for school and career after high school. Grade 12 students will present a “dress rehearsal” of their culminating project presentation to their parents.
