April 13 & 15 HSPE Exams
The High School Proficiency Exams for Math & Science are scheduled for (Math) April 13 & (Science) April 15. The HSPE name conveys the goal of the test: to measure a student’s proficiency of basic skills. Students in the classes of 2010-2012 must pass a reading and writing assessment to be eligible to graduate. Students who do not pass the math exam must complete two additional HS math credits.
If a student has already passed a specific assessment via the WASL (ie., reading or writing), they will not have to take the HSPE in that content area. The DPHS testing schedule can be downloaded here – DPHS TESTING SCHEDULE. Click the “more” link below for additional information regarding state testing…
All students wishing to obtain a high school diploma will need to take and pass the High School Proficiency Exams (HSPE), which replace the WASL. Although the test has changed slightly, graduation requirements have not. Students in the class of 2012 need to pass reading, writing and math in order to be eligible to graduate. Science is not yet a graduation requirement – students in the Class of 2013 are the first to be required to pass reading, writing, math and science assessments. If students do not pass the math HSPE, they can meet the graduation requirement by earning two credits of math after the 10th grade (again, this is only true of the math exam).
Here’s what you need to know about this year’s testing:
- Reading and writing test dates were March 16-18
- Math will be tested April 13
- Science will be tested April 15
- You do not need to register your child for testing
- Students who miss spring testing need to wait until the August testing window (Aug. 9-12) to test again.
There will only be the regular bus route this year. Students not taking the HSPE test(s) have the option to come to have late arrival providing they have transportation (no late bus service). On days when the HSPE is being administered, classes will begin at 11:02 a.m.
Students who arrive to school at 8:30 a.m. and ARE NOT taking the HSPE testing will report to the wrestling room/cafeteria. They will have the option of having a study hall, weight room, library, and other activities from 8:30 a.m. to 10:56 a.m. Those students not taking tests will report to teachers assigned to supervise those not testing.
